The school didn’t have a pool but the team was able to use the pool at Lomas Santa fe Country Club in Solana Beach. I was on a swim team in 7th and 8th grade and we practiced and had meets there also. I must have swam a million laps in that pool. I think most of the group photos I took for the yearbook had a least one person shooting the bird! This guy wanted to remain anonymous.

I remember it had rained earlier in the day and the skies were still grey. I was trying out a new technique to show the movement and motion of the students in the quad and the darker skies helped by allowing for a slower shutter speed. I wasn’t into tripods back then but I had to use one for this photo and set up on the wet and slick rooftop shingles.

A yearbook photograph of San Dieguito High School Junior Varsity Cheerleaders. The “official” photographer Tony Francis, is posing the varsity squad in the background. Tony did all of the senior portraits for the school in his studio in downtown Del Mar. I got to know him later when I had my commercial photo studio in Del Mar next to the racetrack. He was a nice guy and talented photographer but said he would rather spend his time fishing.
